How to use Picasa to upload photos to Facebook on Linux ?

This post shows how to use Google Picasa to upload photo to your Facebook photo tab.It applies if you are using Picasa on a Linux Computer as well as Windows Computer.

There is a Facebook application called "picasauploader" Link is h3r3

When you download this File, it will add a new button on Picasa buttons bar with Facebook icon

To do this on Linux (Ubuntu, Redhat, Centos,Fedora , Hardy Haron ,....) all what you need is:
1) Download this file link is h3r3(it is the URL from the main Facebook application page for security and ensuring that it is an authenticated version)
2) copy the File downloaded above (facebook_v2.pbz) to this folder if you are running Picasa on Linux as I do "/opt/picasa/wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Picasa2/buttons/"
3) restart Picasa
4) you will fin the button added
5) it will ask you for Facebook account username and password (or you can loging on Facebook login page as I did)
6) Select the folder or photos you want to upload to your Facebook Photos and enjoy.

I can get the facebook button, but when I try to upload an album, it will create the album but not send any of the photos. I get a screen with only a URL in the following format.

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=XXXXXX&id=XXXXXXXXX

Hello,
Yes that happened to me as well, please stop Picasa and start it again and try.
That is all what you need to do.
Plus please make sure the username and password of FaceBook are correct (please use the plugin screen for the username and password , not to signin on Facebook URL

Just tried suggestions from this Ubuntu Forums post but I could not get either Firefox 3.5 or IE8 to install in the Picasa wine directory.

I don't think the Facebook plugin for Picasa will ever work again, but the facebook-photo-uploader works like a champ. Seamless experience on Linux.

this worked for me on Linux Mint Maya.

Google discontinued the linux version of picasa -- which never really was written for Linux, but under the hood, it ran via wine. You can still install this if you search for the package for your distro. but i believe it installs an older version of Picasa.

I did not install the linux version of picasa, but downloaded the windows picasa3 installer and then installed that into wine (wine 1.5). I also have firefox and chrome installed into the same wine bottle ( I think the uploader needs SOME browser to work properly).

I installed the pbz file to drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Google/Picasa3/buttons

and it worked like a charm. :)

This pretty much completes my conversion to linux :) :)
