ORACLE to acquire SUN

Oracle acquired Sun, yes indeed that is a major acquisition that will affect the IT world and OPEN SOURCE world as well. Sun Microsystems is a good participant in the FOSS world by their successful projects 1) OpenOffice 2) Java 3) NEtBeans 4) MYSQL I'm not sure what is the future for those successful corner stones projects in the FOSS world. for example what Oracle will do with Mysql. I agree that Mysql is not a major competitor to Oracle DB engine , but still I don't know. The mail sent from Jonathan I. Schwartz Current President and CEO of Sun Microsystems is listed b3low: " From: Jonathan I. Arduino is an Open Source Hardware Project with Open Source Software. It is an electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. It is programmable via CC code. Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software on running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP). The boards can be built by hand or purchased preassembled; the software can be downloaded for free. The hardware reference designs (CAD files) are available under an open-source license, you are free to adapt them to...

HP Netbooks are getting ready for Andriod as Operating System

Image
HP just announced that they are testing and considering Andriod as Operating System for some of their Netbooks as an alternative to other operating systems. Analysts said the move would allow HP to develop a low-cost netbook optimized for wireless networks that provides access to Web-based services such as Google Docs, but others questioned whether the Google software is ready for such a task. "Right now Android is barely finished for phones," said Avi Greengart, an analyst at Current Analysis. While it works well enough for T-Mobile's G1 smartphone, the software was released only last year and "the UI still feels half-finished," he said. HP stressed that it was still only testing Android, an OS based on the open-source Linux kernel. It has assigned engineers to the task but has made no decision yet whether to offer Android in products, said HP spokeswoman Marlene Somsak.
