ORACLE to acquire SUN

Oracle acquired Sun, yes indeed that is a major acquisition that will affect the IT world and OPEN SOURCE world as well. Sun Microsystems is a good participant in the FOSS world by their successful projects 1) OpenOffice 2) Java 3) NEtBeans 4) MYSQL I'm not sure what is the future for those successful corner stones projects in the FOSS world. for example what Oracle will do with Mysql. Arduino is an Open Source Hardware Project with Open Source Software.It is an electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. It is programmable via CC code. Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software on running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP). Egyptian Ubuntu Users had a successful meeting yesterday 03 April 200. That had many objectives with the main one , is getting some action in the Egyptian Ubuntu Users Group in Egypt. Interesting discussions have been raised from many prespective and actions items has been raised such 1) Host content that we will generate in Arabic on Ubuntu related websites ( ubuntuforums, launchpad ....etc) 2) Write an arabic FAQ. 3) Translate www.ubuntuguide.org These are only initial steps to get the wheel spinning. Ahmed Toulan and Mohammed Gamal agreed to start translating ubuntuguide together. asking for volunteers if any. Some of the names attended the meeting are : Mohammed Gamal, Mostafa Zaki, Ahmed Toulan , and Samer Azmy.

HP Netbooks are getting ready for Andriod as Operating System

HP just announced that they are testing and considering Andriod as Operating System for some of their Netbooks as an alternative to other operating systems. Analysts said the move would allow HP to develop a low-cost netbook optimized for wireless networks that provides access to Web-based services such as Google Docs, but others questioned whether the Google software is ready for such a task. "Right now Android is barely finished for phones," said Avi Greengart, an analyst at Current Analysis. While it works well enough for T-Mobile's G1 smartphone, the software was released only last year and "the UI still feels half-finished," he said. HP stressed that it was still only testing Android, an OS based on the open-source Linux kernel. It has assigned engineers to the task but has made no decision yet whether to offer Android in products, said HP spokeswoman Marlene Somsak.
