Google gives All San Francisco homless free Voicemall

Google is partnering with San Francisco to provide the service to homeless individuals and to shelters and agencies so they can distribute the numbers to their clients. The announcement was made at a Project Homeless Connect event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium Wednesday. A homeless person will be able to call in for his or her messages from any phone. The move by the city and the company would allow someone to be able to fill out a job application, which asks for a call back number. It will allow clinics to share test results. Mayor Gavin Newsom and Google said they want to empower people. "How do you communicate as a homeless individual? " Newsom asked. "How do you expect your life to turn around if you can't even get information or if someone can't even get in touch with you?" "It just seems exactly like any other voice mail," said Craig Walker, senior project manager of Google. "There's no stigma attached to it that 'hey this ...

Power Line Networks the Rise

Powerline networking specialist Devolo will next month demo an Ethernet-over-the-mains prototype capable of delivering up to 400Mb/s bandwidth. Devolo's keeping mum about the details until it shows the kit off at the CeBIT show in Hannover. We suspect the unit essentially comprises two separate 200Mb/s HomePlug AV that sit between the mains power cables and a Gigabit Ethernet port. I see that Power Line Networks can break many barriers and works as an excellent carier for last mile connection even more affordable than WiMax, and we all can imagine the impact on Development World and Breaking the digital divide. 5 A Day Ubuntu Program

Ubuntu has a program called 5 A Day, which aims to have each one of us covers 5 bugs per day, only 5 bugs. You can cover these bugs in many ways : If you're a developer, you can help out reviewing patches and getting them uploaded. If you want to just confirm new bugs, you can do that. If you've experience with a certain package and want to triage bugs you can do that and forward them upstream if necessary. If you know your way around Ubuntu quite well, you can help assign bugs to the right package. the Complete thingy on Ubuntu Site link is h3r3

TrueCrypt 5.0 Released

TrueCrypt is an Open Source software system for establishing and maintaining on-the-fly-encrypted volume (data storage device). On-the-fly encryption means that data are automatically encrypted or decrypted right before they are loaded or saved, without any user intervention. No data stored on an encrypted volume can be read (decrypted) without using the correct password/keyfile(s) or correct encryption keys. Entire file system is encrypted (e.g.., file names, folder names, contents of every file, free space, meta data, etc). Files can be copied to and from a mounted TrueCrypt volume just like they are copied to/from any normal disk (for example, by simple drag-and-drop operations). Files are automatically being decrypted on-the-fly (in memory/RAM) while they are being read or copied from an encrypted TrueCrypt volume. Similarly, files that are being written or copied to the TrueCrypt volume are automatically being encrypted on-the-fly (right before they are written to the disk) in...

IP v6 in Action

IPv6 came a step closer as ICANN added IPv6 host records to the root DNS servers, reports the BBC. 'Paul Twomey, president of Icann which oversees the addressing system, told the BBC News website there was a need to start moving to IPv6. "There's pressure for people to make the conversion to IPv6," he said. "We're pushing this as a major issue." The reason for the urgency, he said, was because the unallocated addresses from the total of 4,294,967,296 possible with IPv4 was rapidly running out. "We're down to 14% of the unallocated addresses out of the whole pool for version 4," he said. Projections suggest that this unallocated pool will run out by 2011 at the latest.'"
